A light to moderate spell of rain swept across parts of Dhaka on Thursday morning, offering much-needed respite to residents grappling with relentless summer heat in recent weeks.
The early downpour, which lasted about an hour, refreshed the capital’s concrete terrain—from high-rises to narrow lanes—bringing a noticeable drop in temperature and a calmer, overcast atmosphere.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) indicated that more rain is expected throughout the day, as the sky remains heavily clouded. Office-goers and commuters navigated wet roads, while street vendors and pedestrians adjusted their routines in anticipation of further showers.
The BMD’s forecast, issued Wednesday, had predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by lightning and temporary gusty winds across most parts of the country, including Dhaka, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.
In some areas, the rainfall may intensify to moderately heavy or even very heavy, the weather office warned. This changing pattern is expected to persist for the next two days, signaling the country’s gradual transition into the pre-monsoon phase.
For many in Dhaka, Thursday’s brief rain brought more than just a shift in temperature—it offered a change in mood. After enduring weeks of intense heat, even a short burst of rain felt like a breath of fresh air.
