A mother and her son, detained by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) for allegedly crossing into India through the Chanderhat border in Pirganj, Thakurgaon, were successfully repatriated after a flag meeting between border forces. The meeting, conducted at the zero line near the West Bhabanipur area of Bairchuna union on Saturday afternoon, facilitated their return to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
After the meeting, Nirla, 44, and her 22-year-old son Akash Roy, both from Madhabpur village in Bachor union, were handed over to Pirganj police station by BGB personnel at around 8 p.m., where a case was filed against them under the Border Act.
According to Subedar Moniruddin, the Company Commander of Chanderhat BGB Camp, the pair was apprehended by BSF personnel on Saturday morning near the 2/S pillar area of Border 333. Upon learning of the incident, the BGB sought their immediate release, which was achieved after lengthy negotiations between BGB’s Chanderhat camp and BSF’s Chaksibananda camp. Following their return, the mother and son were transferred to Pirganj police station, where the BGB filed charges of illegal border crossing, confirmed Officer-in-Charge Tajul Islam.
According to Liberty News’ local correspondent, fatalities along the Indian border have become a frequent occurrence. It is rare for detainees to be handed back to Bangladeshi authorities in such cases.
