On the first day of the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday, a surge of motorcycles has been observed on the Padma Bridge. From early morning, long rows of motorcycles have been heading toward the bridge via the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway.
On Friday (28 March), as motorcyclists reach the toll plaza to pay their tolls, the queues are getting even longer. People from the southwestern region of the country are traveling home via Padma Bridge to celebrate Eid with their families.
According to Padma Bridge authorities, a traffic jam stretching up to one kilometer has formed at the toll plaza on the Mawa side of the bridge. Although the bridge has significantly reduced travel hassles, the excessive number of vehicles at the toll plaza is causing difficulties. Along with motorcycles, other vehicles are also contributing to the congestion.
Liberty News’ local correspondent reports that Since early morning, there has been a continuous rush of motorcycles on the bridge, which is still ongoing. In addition to motorcycles, the number of passenger vehicles has also increased. To ensure a smooth Eid journey, toll collection is being conducted at seven booths on the Mawa side of the Padma Bridge toll plaza.
However, as usual, there is a separate system for collecting tolls from motorcycles. Currently, tolls from motorcycles are being collected at three dedicated booths. Despite this, the heavy influx of vehicles has resulted in traffic congestion at the toll plaza area.
