Bangladesh’s veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim has announced his retirement from One Day International (ODI) cricket. On Wednesday (March 5), he shared the news via a Facebook post, confirming that he will continue playing Test cricket for Bangladesh. Earlier, he had retired from T20 internationals in September 2022.
In his statement, Mushfiqur wrote, “From today, I bid farewell to ODI cricket.” He further added, “Although our achievements on the global stage are limited, I have always given my best whenever I stepped onto the field. The past few days have been very challenging for me, and I have realized that this is my destiny. I would like to thank my family, friends, and supporters who have stood by me for the past 19 years.”
Liberty News’ sports correspondent reports that Mushfiqur last represented Bangladesh in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, but he struggled to make a significant impact with the bat. His decision marks the end of an illustrious ODI career, during which he played a crucial role in Bangladesh’s growth as a competitive cricketing nation.
