The renowned lyricist, composer, and musician Pratul Mukhopadhyay, the creator of the iconic song “Ami Banglay Gaan Gai,” has passed away. He had been receiving treatment in the ICU of the hospital for the past two weeks.
He died on Saturday morning while undergoing treatment at the SSKM Hospital in Kolkata. He was 83 years old at the time of his death.
Born on June 25, 1942, in the undivided Bengal’s Barisal, he moved to India with his family during the partition of the country in 1947. From a young age, he composed music for his own lyrics. Among his countless songs, the song “Ami Banglay Gaan Gai” made him particularly well-known among listeners.
Some of his notable albums include “Pathore Pathore Nache Aagun,” “Jete Hobe,” “Otho He,” “Swapner Feriwala,” “Tomake Dekhechhilam,” “Swapnopure,” “Anek Natun Bondhu Hok,” “Hayaborol,” “Andhar Name,” and others.
