A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted a petition to show Nasir Uddin Sathi, chairman of the private television channel My TV, as arrested in a case filed over allegations of forcing a female employee to sign stamps under death threat.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partha Bhadra passed the order cancelling his bail petition.

Confirming the matter, state prosecutor Md Harun-or-Rashid said the court ordered him arrested in the case in response to the complainant’s petition and rejected the bail petition of the accused.

Earlier in 2024, the victim filed a complaint case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka against Sathi and six others.

According to the case documents, Nasir Uddin Sathi sent one of his female employees, Turjo Rezaul Kotha, on a trip to the United States on 19 January last year.

Upon her return to Bangladesh after the trip, the accused called her to his office and made a bad proposal. When she refused, Sathi attempted to rape her.

The case also alleged that Sathi, along with other accused, then assaulted her, gave her a death threat, and coerced her into signing 98 blank checks and nine non-judicial stamps.

Nasir was arrested on 17 August from the Gulshan area of the capital, and a Dhaka court sent him on a five-day remand on the following day in a murder case linked with the July Uprising.
