Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, said on Thursday that the upcoming 13th parliamentary election will be held on schedule, with no possibility of delay.
Speaking at an event organized by the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters’ Forum in Dhaka, Shafiqul said the next five to six days will be crucial in shaping the country’s political future.
“You can be certain of one thing — the national election will not be delayed, not even a day beyond the date announced earlier by Prof Yunus,” he said.
He explained that the chief adviser had initially stated the polls would be held in early April next year, but later revised the timeline after discussions in London, advancing the election to February. “We remain firm on that schedule,” he confirmed.
Responding to uncertainty surrounding the election roadmap, the press secretary said the upcoming polls would be held in a “festive mode.”
Acknowledging past instances of electoral violence, he added that the interim government is working to bring violence during the polls down to “zero level.”
