National onsensus commission formed under leadership of Chief Advisor Yunus

A National Consensus Commission has been formed under the leadership of Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, with its activities set to begin on February 15. The commission, tasked with discussing reforms ahead of the upcoming elections, will operate for six months.

The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Wednesday, announcing the formation of the National Consensus Commission, which will focus on electoral, police, judicial, administrative, constitutional, and anti-corruption reforms. The commission is expected to engage in discussions with political parties and other stakeholders to foster national consensus on these key issues.

Professor Ali Riaz, head of the Constitutional Reform Commission, has been appointed as the commission’s Vice Chairman. Other members include Abdul Mueed Chowdhury, head of the Public Administration Reform Commission; Saphor Raj Hossain, head of the Police Reform Commission; Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, head of the Electoral System Reform Commission; Justice Emdadul Haque, member of the Judiciary Reform Commission; and Iftekharuzzaman, head of the Anti-Corruption Reform Commission.

Liberty News’ national correspondent states that according to the notification, the commission will consider recommendations from various reform commissions and take necessary steps to build political consensus in the lead-up to the national elections. The Chief Advisor’s Office will provide administrative support to the commission throughout its tenure.
