BNP senior leader Nazrul Islam Khan said a movement is unnecessary to demand elections, as the current government came to power with their support.
Following a liaison meeting with the 12-party alliance on Saturday in Gulshan, BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan stated that demanding elections through street protests is not essential since the present government was previously endorsed by them.
He mentioned, “We’ve had only one round of discussion with the alliance. Talks with other like-minded parties are pending. But we don’t think a movement is needed to demand elections—we supported this government.”
Nazrul added that the parties involved have been working closely for years and had recently met with the Chief Adviser. “We demanded elections by December and believe necessary preparations are already in place. We also called for justice against those involved in fascism and human rights violations.”
Mustafa Jamal Haider, chief of the 12-party alliance and Jatiya Party chairman, reiterated that elections must be held by December. “We urge the government to present a clear roadmap and remove fascist collaborators from the administration,” he said.
