The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has broadened the list of import goods eligible for transfer, unstuffing, and delivery via privately operated Inland Container Depots (ICDs) and off-docks approved by Chattogram Customs House.
This move aims to streamline import-export processes and alleviate congestion at Chattogram Port.
NBR regularly updates the permitted list based on operational needs and stakeholder feedback to ensure smooth international trade and efficient port operations.
After consultations with trade bodies, Chattogram Port Authority, and Customs House, 27 new import categories were approved in two phases — 12 categories on April 8, 2025, and 15 more on July 17, 2025 — adding to the previously allowed 38 categories.
Now, a total of 65 types of import goods can be handled through 19 operational ICDs and off-docks across Chattogram.
NBR expects this expansion will enable private ICDs to use their full capacity, reduce congestion at the main port, speed up goods clearance, and ultimately boost trade facilitation, contributing significantly to Bangladesh’s economic growth.
