In a joint meeting, the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) and Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh reached a consensus demanding that the ruling Awami League (AL) be declared a terrorist organization and tried for alleged genocide, terrorism, and crimes against humanity. Until the trial, they called for AL’s political and organizational activities to be banned.
The meeting was held Wednesday morning at the NCP’s temporary central office in Banglamotor, Dhaka. Led by NCP Convener Nahid Islam and Hefazat Secretary General Allama Sajidur Rahman, delegations from both groups discussed pressing national political issues, upcoming elections, and reform agendas.
Prominent Hefazat leaders including Nayeb-e-Ameer Ahmed Abdul Kader, Mawlana Ahmad Ali Qasemi, Mawlana Mohiuddin Rabbani, and Joint Secretary General Mawlana Mamunul Haque attended the session. The NCP delegation also included Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain and senior leaders from northern and southern regions.
Though the NCP refrained from issuing a formal statement, party leader Ariful Islam confirmed the consensus around AL’s accountability for the “July genocide,” pushing for its deregistration and visible steps toward prosecution before the next national election.
Hefazat’s official statement reiterated demands for restoring full constitutional trust in Almighty Allah, eliminating pluralism, and resolving false, politically motivated cases filed during AL’s tenure. They also called for expedited legal resolution of cases against opposition figures and a united stand on structural reforms.
Liberty News’ political correspondent states that earlier, Hefazat held a similar meeting with the BNP, signaling its growing political engagement ahead of national elections.
