The National Citizens’ Party (NCP) staged a protest rally in Dhaka Sunday night, condemning the attack on its South Region Chief Organizer, Hasnat Abdullah, and issued a 24-hour ultimatum to bring the attackers to justice.

The demonstration began around 10 PM in front of the party’s temporary central office in Banglamotor and moved through Shahbagh before returning to the starting point. NCP leaders and activists from central and Dhaka metropolitan units joined the spontaneous rally.

Following the protest, NCP Joint Member Secretary Mahin Sarker warned of tougher political programs if the assailants were not apprehended within 24 hours. He claimed the entire country stood by the NCP in demanding a ban on the ruling Awami League from judicial processes.

Party leaders alleged that the attackers were members of the outlawed student wing of the Awami League, holding the interim government accountable for ensuring their arrest. They also called for the Awami League’s political ban until trial proceedings are completed, citing its alleged role in mass violence during the upcoming July uprising.

Protesters chanted slogans such as “Who are you, who am I? Hasnat, Hasnat!”, “No compromise, only struggle!”, “Action to action against the Awami League!”, “Our brother is in the grave, why are the killers free?”, and “Ban the Awami League for bloodshed in July!”

Earlier in the evening, Hasnat Abdullah’s vehicle was attacked in Gazipur, leaving him injured. In response, local NCP units organized a protest at Chandna Chowrasta around 9 PM.
