The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced that it will publicly release its “July Declaration” and manifesto at Dhaka’s Central Shaheed Minar on 3 August, marking the anniversary of the historic July uprising. The decision comes in protest against the interim government’s failure to fulfill its earlier commitments.
At a press conference held on Sunday (29 June) at the party’s temporary office in Banglamotor, NCP Convener Md Nahid Islam said the event will include students and citizens united in opposition to authoritarianism.
“On 3 August, we will declare the July manifesto — a call that was originally supposed to be fulfilled by the government,” Nahid stated. “The government had promised a ‘July Declaration’ with constitutional recognition and acknowledgment of the martyrs. They gave themselves 30 working days, but no action has been taken.”
He added that the responsibility now falls on the people. “The government promised to consult all parties and build consensus, yet they failed to deliver. So we, along with the people of Bangladesh, will present the July Declaration and manifesto ourselves,” Nahid said.
The upcoming program is being positioned as a people-powered initiative aiming to restore democratic values and resist political repression.
