National Citizens Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam has declared that the party’s opposition is not against any specific political entity, but rather against the old corrupt political structure that relies on extortion and mafia influence.
Speaking at a public rally on Bagerhat Rail Road Saturday night, Nahid stated, “Those who try to uphold the mafia system and continue extortion will no longer be accepted by the people.”
The rally was part of the ongoing countrywide campaign ‘Desh Gorte July Padajatra’ (March for Nation Building), now in its 12th day.
Calling for structural reforms in the state, Nahid warned, “If political parties continue to resist reform and cling to corruption, the people will turn against them. Students are once again protesting in universities — it’s a clear sign of growing public discontent.”
He emphasized that the people demand justice and the end of mafia and extortion-based governance. “We couldn’t eliminate this system before, but we are back with renewed strength,” he said. “Implementing the July Charter within July–August is our promise to the martyrs.”
Addressing the police administration, Nahid urged law enforcement to support the people, not extortionists. “If the police behave like partisan tools under a fascist system, they too will face consequences,” he warned.
The rally was attended by senior NCP leaders including Akhtar Hossain, Dr. Tasnim Jara, Nasiruddin Patwari, Ariful Islam Abid, and others. NCP’s Bagerhat coordination team, along with activists, also joined the gathering.
Earlier in the day, Nahid and other central leaders visited the families of martyrs and injured persons from Bagerhat who were affected during the July uprising.
