The government has extended the deadline for launching the National Equipment Identity Register (NEIR) system, aimed at preventing the use of illegally imported and smuggled mobile phones in the country.

The NEIR system was initially scheduled to come into effect on 16 December. However, authorities have decided to defer its implementation to 1 January 2026, as many mobile handset traders have yet to submit information on their unsold or remaining stock to the commission.

According to an official notification, mobile phone traders had been given time until 15 December 2025 to submit NEIR-related information and other relevant details of all previously imported but unsold or stocked handsets for inclusion in the system.

It was observed that a significant number of traders failed to submit the required information within the stipulated time.

To facilitate those traders, the government decided to reschedule the launch of the NEIR system from 16 December 2025 to 1 January 2026.

In this context, the deadline for submitting information to allow unsold or stocked mobile handsets to be integrated into the network has been extended until 31 December 2025.

All concerned mobile phone traders have been requested to submit the IMEI numbers and related information of the mentioned handsets in the prescribed Microsoft Excel (.xlsx) format by 31 December 2025 via email to neir@btrc.gov.bd for inclusion in the NEIR system.
