Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ruled out ending the Gaza war immediately but signaled he may consider a temporary ceasefire under specific conditions.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the war in Gaza is far from over, yet he is open to a temporary ceasefire if it ensures the release of more Israeli hostages. Speaking to his right-wing allies, Netanyahu emphasized that eliminating Hamas and rescuing hostages are intertwined goals and said no ceasefire will take place unless those objectives align.

According to The Times of Israel, Netanyahu assured his coalition partners that unless Hamas agrees to disarm, Israel will only accept a limited pause in fighting — possibly in exchange for the release of a few hostages. “There will be no situation in which we halt the war just because Hamas claims it is ready to free more hostages,” he asserted.

On Monday, Netanyahu’s office announced that a delegation of Israeli negotiators was sent to Doha, Qatar, to explore a potential ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal with Hamas. The delegation is expected to remain in Doha through at least Thursday.

Amid ongoing negotiations, Hamas on Monday released Edan Alexander, an Israeli-American citizen. Hamas noted that the release was a goodwill gesture tied to ongoing talks with the United States.

Currently, Israeli officials believe 58 hostages remain in Gaza, including 21 thought to be alive. Meanwhile, nearly 9,900 Palestinians are held in Israeli prisons. Human rights organizations report that detainees face torture, starvation, and medical neglect — conditions that have already resulted in several deaths.
