Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu, the newly elected president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has pledged to reduce the members’ subscription fee by 25% starting July 2025.
The announcement was made during the official handover ceremony held on Sunday (16 June) at the BGMEA building in Uttara, where Babu formally took charge from outgoing administrator Anwar Hossain.
At the event, newly appointed office bearers including First Vice President Selim Rahman, Senior Vice President Enamul Haque Khan, and others also assumed their roles.
Babu outlined his vision for a more transparent and member-oriented BGMEA, promising to develop an online platform to streamline services and boost transparency.
He called for unity within the garment sector and emphasized the need to work together to achieve a $100 billion export goal by overcoming global and domestic challenges.
Babu also urged the government to pause Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) graduation and simplify procedures around customs clearance and the ease of doing business.
The 2025–27 BGMEA board was elected unopposed, with all eight office bearer candidates confirmed without contest. The results were declared by election board chairman Mohammad Iqbal.
