After a long wait, Neymar finally found the back of the net, scoring for Santos in their 3-1 victory over Água Santa in the São Paulo State Championship. This marks the end of a 502-day goal drought.
Neymar’s long-awaited goal came in the 14th minute of the match, converting a penalty to give Santos a 1-0 lead. This was his first goal since October 3, 2023, when he scored for Al Hilal in an AFC Champions League match against Nassaji Mazandaran.
Since joining Al Hilal, Neymar had struggled with injuries and played only a handful of games, leading to limited opportunities for goals. After terminating his contract with the Saudi Arabian club last month, he returned to his childhood club, Santos. However, questions about his form and performance persisted.
Liberty News’ sports correspondent states this goal against Água Santa has not only ended his goal drought but has also helped to silence some of the critics, signaling a promising comeback for the Brazilian star.
