Just weeks after making his return from a lengthy injury, Brazilian star Neymar has suffered a new setback. The forward, who recently rejoined his boyhood club Santos, will miss his team’s latest match due to injury, casting doubt on his participation in Brazil’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Neymar’s return to the pitch after nearly a year-long injury layoff has once again been interrupted by injury. The Brazilian forward had only recently rejoined Santos, his original club, after a long recovery and even had his contract with Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal canceled due to his previous injury struggles.
After playing a few matches for Santos, Neymar has now been sidelined again with another injury, this time missing the latest Paulista Championship semi-final match against Corinthians. While Santos did not officially comment on his absence, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Neymar had suffered a new injury.
Romano explained on his social media that Neymar was experiencing discomfort, which led to his exclusion from the squad. Neymar later confirmed the news himself, stating, “Unfortunately, over the past few weeks, I have been feeling some pain. I truly wanted to help the team, but after morning tests, I felt pain again.” He clarified that he had been feeling discomfort in his thigh muscles on the day of the match, which led him to withdraw from the game.
Neymar’s absence did not help Santos, as they lost 2-1 to Corinthians, being knocked out of the competition.
Liberty sports correspondent states that his injury also puts his participation in Brazil’s World Cup qualifying matches against Colombia and Argentina in doubt, as he had earned a call-up following his strong performances for Santos. With the new injury, there are concerns whether Neymar will be fit in time for the upcoming international fixtures.
