Local government affairs adviser Asif Mahmud has said the Ministry of Local Government has not violated any laws regarding the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayoral issue.

In a press release issued on Monday, he stated that since the matter is sub-judice and the official gazette has expired along with the DSCC’s term, there is no legal provision for administering an oath.

He criticized the occupation of Nagar Bhaban and the disruption of public services as “irresponsible” and a “disregard for the rule of law.”

“As someone involved in the anti-fascist movement, I did not expect such conduct. Due to the blockade, citizen services in the last month have dropped by 30–40 percent. Our officers are continuing DSCC operations from WASA offices to avoid further disruption,” the statement added.

Mahmud also urged leaders engaged in the anti-fascist struggle to act with greater responsibility and maturity.
