The long-running social media campaign and public demand for a “Noakhali Division” has now found an unexpected platform — professional cricket.
A company named Science Global has formally submitted an application to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to acquire a franchise for the 2025 season of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) under the proposed name “Noakhali Royals.”
According to the company’s website, Science Global has an office based in London. Representing the company at a press conference held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Monday (June 30), London-based businessman Ahmed Jamil stated, “We are fully prepared. All necessary documentation is ready. If BCB responds positively to our proposal, it would be a matter of great pride for the people of Noakhali.”
Over the past several years, the slogan “Noakhali Bibhag Chai (We want Noakhali Division)” has been a trending topic on social media and has sparked numerous human chains and demonstrations in Dhaka, led by the Noakhali Bibhag Bastobayon Songram Parishad.
Although the BCB has not officially announced the timeline for the 11th edition of the BPL, it is expected to take place in 2025.
