OC transferred after Rajshahi police station siege

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Boalia Police Station in Rajshahi city, Mehedi Masud, has been transferred. He has been appointed as an Inspector in the Detective Branch (DB) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP).

On Wednesday, RMP Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufiyan signed this order. The same order also appointed Mostak Ahmed, Inspector of the City Special Branch (SB), as the new OC of Boalia Police Station.

Earlier, on Tuesday night, a group of angry people surrounded Boalia Police Station. They alleged that they had captured a person who had attacked a procession of students and the general public handed him over to the law enforcement authorities. However, the Boalia police did not arrest him in connection with the attack on the students, the general public.

The accused was sent to court under the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Ordinance. The accused was granted bail and released the same day.

Protesting people blamed the police’s negligence for the incident and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused. The police, however, assured them that the accused would be arrested again that night. The following day, the OC of Boalia Police Station was transferred & appointed to the DB (Detective Branch).

When asked if this transfer was related to the night’s incident, RMP’s Additional Deputy Police Commissioner (Media) Sabina Yasmin said, ‘Actually, that’s not the case. The transfer happened for administrative reasons. Officers are assigned to places where they will perform well.’
