A violent clash between rival factions of BNP’s youth and volunteer wings in Rupganj, Narayanganj, left one person dead and 10 others injured, three of them with gunshot wounds.
The deadly confrontation took place late on Tuesday night at the Chonpara Rehabilitation Center in Kayetpara Union, Rupganj, following a dispute over territorial control between local supporters of BNP’s youth wing (Jubo Dal) and the volunteer wing (Swechchhasebak Dal).
According to local sources, the altercation began when Robin, a supporter of Swechchhasebak Dal, had a verbal confrontation with Monir, a supporter of Jubo Dal. The situation escalated into a physical altercation, prompting a meeting between senior leaders of both factions, including Shamim from Jubo Dal and Karim and Rabbani from Swechchhasebak Dal, in an attempt to resolve the issue. However, instead of diffusing the tension, the meeting only fueled further aggression.
The clash broke out when both sides mobilized their supporters, leading to a bloody confrontation. As a result, several individuals, including Abul Bashar, Russel Ahmed, and Hasib Mia, were shot. Hasib Mia, a 35-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, was killed in the violence, while 10 others sustained injuries.
Liberty News’ local correspondent states that Hasib was the son of Anwar Hossain, a resident of Ward 6 of Chonpara Rehabilitation Center. Authorities have launched an operation to apprehend the individuals involved in the violence. The police, along with joint forces, are continuing their efforts to restore order in the area.
