Operation Devil Hunt : 7 arrested in Noakhali including chairman

On the first day of Operation ‘Devil Hunt’, a joint force conducted raids in Hatiya, Noakhali, and arrested seven individuals, including a former chairman and the president of the union Awami League.

The arrests took place during raids carried out in various locations in Hatiya on Saturday night (February 8).

The arrested individuals are Alauddin Azad (64), former chairman of Charishwar Union in Hatiya Upazila, Saddam Hossain (26), son of Belal Uddin from Ward No. 1 of Hatiya Municipality, Abul Kalam Bitu (44), son of the late Abdus Shahid from Ward No. 3, Azim Uddin (31), son of Alauddin from Adarshagram in Nijhum Dwip Union, Sirajul Islam, also known as Rakshan (24), son of Mahin Uddin from Tamruddin Union, Abdul Majed Palash (43), son of Haji Abdul Kaiyum, and Abdul Jaher (39).

According to sources from the operation, a joint force consisting of the Navy, Coast Guard, Naval Police, and regular police conducted raids in Hatiya Upazila, Noakhali, and arrested former chairman Azad from Ward No. 2 of Oskhali Old Market in Charishwar Union. Following this, additional raids were conducted in various locations, leading to the arrest of six more individuals. During the operation, a plastic-handled sharp knife, a sharp axe, two wooden-handled sharp knives, and three long swords were recovered.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Hatiya Police Station, A.K.M. Azmal Huda, told Liberty News that this was the first operation at Hatiya Police Station following the declaration of ‘Operation Devil Hunt’ by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Legal action is currently being processed against the detainees. At the same time, the joint operation by the Navy, Coast Guard, Naval Police, and regular police continues.
