The joint forces conducted “Operation Devil Hunt” in the remote island sub-districts of Hatia and Senbagh in Noakhali. During the operation, three individuals, including a Youth League leader, were arrested.
While the operation was underway, militants in Hatia threw cocktails at the joint forces. The operation was conducted from Monday night to Tuesday morning. The arrested are Didarul Islam Didar, a member of Senbag Upazila Jubo League, Nabir Uddin and Imam Hossain of Hatiar Charking Union.
A foreign pistol, 1 magazine, 3 single-barrel guns, 8 cartridges, 20 cocktails, 2 daggers, 2 creases and 1 sword were seized in the operation.
Commander of the Hatia Navy contingent, Afser Uddin Ahmed, stated that “Operation Devil Hunt” has been ongoing in Hatia since February 8, in line with the nationwide operation. As part of the operation, a joint mission was conducted by the Bangladesh Navy, Coast Guard, and Police in the Charking Union.
On Monday at around 11 p.m., when the joint forces reached the area in front of Kausar Mia’s brickfield at Haji Abdul Bashar Market on College Road in Ward 2 of Charking Union, militants began hurling cocktails indiscriminately towards them.
The commander said that in self-defense, the joint force members fired 24 rounds of blank fire to disperse the terrorists after the terrorists threw grenades. Later, when the terrorists started fleeing, the joint force chased them and arrested two people named Nabir Uddin and Imam Hossain. Various weapons and munitions have been seized from them.
The commander also said that about 10-15 terrorists escaped during this time. There are multiple cases against the arrested terrorists at the police station for murder, robbery, drug and extortion. They are involved in the attack on students and the public in Hatia on February 6.
A case has been filed against them at the Hatia police station.
Senbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman told Liberty News that Didarul Islam Didar, a member of Senbagh Upazila Jubo League, was arrested in a raid in the district town of Maijdi on Monday night on charges of attacking students and the public in July.
