Defying Israeli restrictions, more than 120,000 Palestinian worshippers gathered at Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform Eid prayers on Sunday. While Saudi Arabia and 10 other countries celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr, tensions in Jerusalem overshadowed the festivities.
According to the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf, Israeli authorities attempted to prevent many worshippers from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque. As a result, thousands were forced to pray outside the mosque’s walls.
Local media reported that Israeli occupation forces blocked numerous Palestinians from accessing the mosque’s compound, leading to large gatherings in the surrounding areas.
Unlike previous years, the usual festive atmosphere was absent at Al-Aqsa. The ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza and escalating violence in the West Bank have cast a shadow over Eid celebrations, leaving Palestinian families mourning instead of rejoicing.
