Saudi authorities have arrested 17,389 individuals over the past week for violating residency, employment, and border security regulations, as part of an ongoing crackdown.
In a significant crackdown, Saudi Arabia’s authorities have detained 17,389 people for various legal violations related to residency and border laws. The arrests were made over the course of one week, with a primary focus on individuals breaching housing and employment regulations, as well as attempting to cross the country’s borders illegally.
According to a report from Saudi Press Agency, of the total arrests, 10,397 individuals were detained for violating residency laws, 4,128 for attempting illegal border crossings, and 2,864 for labor-related offenses.
Among those arrested for illegal entry, 56% were Ethiopian, 41% were Yemeni, and 3% came from other nationalities. Additionally, 104 people were caught attempting to enter neighboring countries, while 15 were arrested for facilitating or sheltering illegal immigrants.
Saudi authorities have emphasized strict penalties for those aiding and abetting illegal entry, warning that offenders could face up to 15 years in prison and fines as high as 1 million riyals. The Ministry of Interior has also called on local residents to assist in reporting any violations. Citizens can report suspicious activities via toll-free numbers 911 in Makkah and Riyadh, and 999 or 996 in other regions.
