The Pakistani army has killed at least 30 militants in a major operation. The military conducted this operation based on intelligence reports in a conflict-prone region near the Afghan border.
The nuclear-armed country’s military stated that Pakistan’s security forces are determined to eliminate the threat of terrorism from the country. This information was reported by the Anadolu news agency on Tuesday, February 18.
According to the agency, on Tuesday, the Pakistani army killed at least 30 suspected militants in a security operation near the Afghanistan border. A military statement said that an “intelligence-based” operation was carried out in the troubled tribal district of South Waziristan, bordering neighboring Afghanistan.
The statement further mentioned, “A clearance operation is underway to eliminate other militants present in the area. Pakistan’s security forces are committed to eradicating the threat of terrorism from the country.”
In recent years, terrorist attacks in Pakistan have increased. Islamabad has accused Afghanistan of failing to take action against Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)-affiliated militants.
Pakistan also claims that these militants are operating from Afghan territory, an allegation that Kabul has repeatedly denied.
