Pakistan’s industrial conglomerate Engro is eyeing investment opportunities in Bangladesh, with particular interest in the telecom and energy sectors, as revealed during a high-level meeting in Dhaka.
During a meeting with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the state guesthouse Jamuna on Thursday (April 10), Engro Holdings CEO Abdul Samad Dawood expressed his company’s interest in expanding operations in Bangladesh.
Dawood emphasized the potential in Bangladesh’s telecommunications sector and highlighted opportunities in contributing to industrial growth through Bhola’s gas supply. “We are highly optimistic about the telecom sector in Bangladesh,” he said. “We also see a chance to support industrial development via gas from Bhola.”
Welcoming the interest, Dr. Yunus stressed the importance of sustainable, long-term partnerships. “We want to focus on projects that create meaningful, lasting impact in people’s lives,” he said.
Dawood, in Dhaka to attend the Bangladesh Investment Summit, praised the four-day event for its inclusive and focused approach. “The BIDA Summit had a humane touch, it felt sincere, welcoming, and goal-oriented. I was impressed to see so many top companies under one roof,” he added.
Dr. Yunus invited Engro to revisit Bangladesh and explore more opportunities for collaboration across various sectors. “Bangladesh has much to offer, not only to investors but to the global community,” he said.
Liberty News’ national correspondent states that the meeting was also attended by the Chief Adviser’s Special Envoy Lutfey Siddiqi, SDG Chief Coordinator Lamia Morshed, and Principal Secretary Sirajuddin Mia.
