Heavy monsoon rains have left almost 400 people dead across Pakistan since Thursday evening, according to official figures released Tuesday. Rescue teams are still working to recover bodies trapped under debris.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) confirmed that at least 356 fatalities occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a mountainous province in the northwest bordering Afghanistan.

Overall, the NDMA reported that 706 people have lost their lives since the start of the monsoon season on June 26, which is expected to continue until the middle of September.
