Pakistan’s army chief General Asim Munir has warned that any military misadventure by India will be met with an “unprecedented” response, emphasizing that the country is fully prepared to safeguard its national interests.

Speaking atop a tank during a military drill on Thursday (May 1), General Asim Munir issued a stern warning to India, stating, “Let me be clear—any military misadventure by India will be responded to swiftly and in an unprecedented manner.” His remarks came while inspecting the ‘Hammer Strike’ military exercise conducted by Pakistan Army’s Mangla Strike Corps in Jhelum, Punjab.

According to Dawn, citing the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief commended the high morale and preparedness of the troops. The military, he said, is determined and well-equipped to defend Pakistan’s sovereignty.

Tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors have risen sharply since a deadly gun attack in Indian-administered Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. India has accused Pakistan of having indirect links to the incident—a charge Islamabad denies.

As military deployments increase near the border, with tanks, artillery, and troops mobilized, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar clarified at a press conference on Thursday that Pakistan will not initiate hostilities but will retaliate forcefully if provoked. “Pakistan will not take the first step toward conflict,” Dar said. “But any aggression from India will be met with a strong and decisive response.”

Meanwhile, the United States has expressed support for India’s right to self-defense, further adding to regional tensions. Pakistani officials have accused India of politicizing the Pahalgam attack and creating an unnecessarily hostile environment, which they claim jeopardizes peace and stability across South Asia.
