As tensions escalate in the Middle East, a senior Iranian military official has claimed that Pakistan has pledged to launch a nuclear response if Israel uses nuclear weapons against Iran.
General Mohsen Rezaei, a high-ranking member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the country’s National Security Council, made the statement during a televised interview on Sunday. “Pakistan has assured us that if Israel uses nuclear bombs, they will also respond with nuclear weapons,” he said.
His remarks come amid a deadly exchange of missile strikes between Iran and Israel that has already claimed at least 248 lives—230 in Iran and 18 in Israel.
Rezaei further stated that Pakistan stands with Iran and has called for unity in the Muslim world. He also hinted at Iran possessing undisclosed capabilities that have not yet been revealed.
However, the Pakistani government has not issued any official statement on the matter. While it has previously offered diplomatic support to Iran, there is no concrete evidence that Pakistan has directly threatened nuclear retaliation.
According to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, both Israel and Pakistan are nuclear-armed states. Analysts suggest that Rezaei’s comments should be viewed more as a diplomatic message than a confirmed military policy. The ongoing conflict has already drawn the attention of global powers including the United States, China, and Russia.
