Trade between Bangladesh and Pakistan has resumed after 54 years. A Pakistani ship, carrying 25,000 tons of rice, has set sail for Bangladesh under a government-to-government (G2G) agreement.

For the first time since 1971, Bangladesh and Pakistan have resumed direct government-level trade. According to a report from Pakistan’s The Express Tribune on Saturday, a Pakistani cargo ship has left Karachi’s Port Qasim with 25,000 tons of rice on its way to Bangladesh.

This is a historic step in bilateral trade, as Bangladesh has agreed to purchase a total of 50,000 tons of rice from Pakistan. The rice will be supplied through Pakistan’s Trading Corporation (TCP).

The export process will be completed in two phases. The first shipment of 25,000 tons is already on its way, and the remaining 25,000 tons is scheduled to be sent in early March.

Liberty News’ international correspondent states this event marks an important milestone in maritime trade relations, as it is the first time a ship from Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) will anchor at a Bangladeshi port with a government cargo.
