A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a writ petition in the High Court, urging the formation of an expert committee to review the controversial recommendations made by the Women Reform Commission.

On Sunday, Advocate Rowshan Ali submitted the petition citing several recommendations in the 2025 Women Reform Commission Report that allegedly conflict with Islamic Shariah, the Constitution of Bangladesh, and the values of devout citizens.

The 318-page report, recently published and widely circulated, includes proposals such as equal inheritance rights for men and women, a ban on polygamy, endorsement of the slogan “My Body, My Choice,” legal recognition of sex work, and progressive language regarding gender identity and transgender issues.

According to the petitioner, these recommendations contradict Quranic directives—particularly Surah An-Nisa (4:11)—as well as Article 41 of the Constitution, which protects religious freedom. He also argued that recognizing sex work as a legal profession violates Articles 2(a) and 26 of the Constitution.

The petition names three ministries and the chairperson of the Women Reform Commission as respondents, seeking the court’s intervention to evaluate the report through a Shariah-sensitive and constitutionally aligned expert panel.
