A group of pirates attacked a fishing trawler in the Bay of Bengal, near Patuakhali’s Payra Port, leaving three fishermen injured.
The attack occurred on Friday, about 90 kilometers from Payra Port, on the FB Ma trawler. The injured men—Jalal Sharif (55), Md. Shah Alam (45), and Mizanur Rahman (25)—are from various villages in the Mahipur area.
According to trawler captain Sarwar Hossain, the crew of 13 fishermen was returning to shore when a group of pirates fired shotgun pellets at their trawler near Payra Port. Three fishermen were wounded, and the pirates then took control of the vessel, robbing it of nearly 3 lakh taka worth of hilsa fish, 12 mobile phones, fuel, and other goods valued at around 5 lakh taka.
The injured were taken to the local health complex, and Jalal was transferred to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital due to his critical condition.
Liberty News local correspondent states that Mahipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Tarikul Islam confirmed no written complaint had been filed yet but assured that an investigation would begin once one was received.
