A pistol along with four rounds of ammunition was recovered from the son of a local Jubo League leader in Hajiganj, triggering concern over illegal weapon possession involving minors.
A joint security team in Hajiganj, Chandpur, recovered a pistol and four rounds of cartridges from a 13-year-old madrasa student, identified as the son of Masud Khondokar, a Jubo League leader. The recovery took place on Monday afternoon at Suhilpur Bazar in Hajiganj Sadar Union.
The boy, Mahfuz, is a sixth-grade student at Suhilpur ABS Fazil (Degree) Madrasa. Eyewitnesses reported that during a dispute with a neighbor named Nasir, Mahfuz pulled out a firearm wrapped in a black cloth from his waist. Local youth Faruk swiftly intervened, seized the weapon-like object, and alerted law enforcement.
Responding to the call, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Md. Morad Hossain arrived at the scene and took possession of the pistol and ammunition. Personnel from the local army camp also joined the operation. Authorities suspect the pistol and ammunition may be dummy items, but further verification is underway.
Faruk, who seized the weapon, told journalists, “We were having tea when we heard the commotion. I saw the boy holding what appeared to be a pistol and immediately confiscated it before calling the police.”
A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed, “We saw Mahfuz take the weapon out of his waist himself. It was wrapped in a piece of cloth.”
The boy’s mother claimed that he found the pistol and bullets while playing, leading to an argument among children before the situation escalated.
Confirming the incident, Hajiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Mohiuddin Faruk stated, “We will conduct a thorough investigation and take legal action accordingly.”
