In a special operation in the Sundarbans, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has apprehended a poacher in possession of 110 kilograms of venison. The arrest was confirmed in a press release issued on Tuesday (April 8) by Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Sayeam-ul-Haque.
According to the statement, acting on a tip-off, a special operation was launched around 10 AM by the Coast Guard outpost in Nolian. As the team approached the Thakur Bari Ghat area near the Sundarbans, three suspects—identified as Md. Shahjahan, Md. Anu, and an unidentified individual—abandoned two boats loaded with deer meat and fled the scene. The trio is believed to be associates of notorious forest bandit Karim Sharif.
Upon searching the boats, Coast Guard personnel recovered approximately 110 kilograms of deer meat and detained one individual at the scene. The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Md. Ariful Sardan, is a resident of Dacope Upazila in Khulna.
Liberty News ‘local correspondent reports that the detained poacher and the seized venison have been handed over to the Nolian Forest Office for further legal action, the Coast Guard confirmed.
Officials further stated that round-the-clock patrols are ongoing in coastal and riverside areas to maintain law and order, and similar operations will continue in the future.
