A police officer was stabbed and had his wallet and mobile phone snatched early Monday morning at Rayarbagh in the capital’s Jatrabari. He was later rescued and admitted to Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital for treatment.
The injured officer, Md Rasel Mia, 31, is a constable of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Rasel, who lives in Rais Nagar of Jatrabari, was on duty at the CID headquarters at the time of the incident.
Nurul Islam, who took Rasel to the hospital, said, “Around 5:30 am, Rasel was riding his motorcycle through the Rayarbagh area when 3–4 unidentified snatchers obstructed his way. They stabbed him in the hand and took away his wallet and mobile phone.”
He added, “Upon receiving the news, we first took him to Rayarbagh Police Hospital. From there, he was referred to Dhaka Medical College for advanced treatment.”
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH Police Camp, confirmed that Rasel was brought to the hospital in an injured condition and received treatment at the emergency department. He also confirmed that the incident has been reported to the relevant police station.
