A police officer’s hanging body has been recovered in Satkhira. The incident took place at his rented house in the Rasulpur area of Satkhira city at 3:00 AM on Sunday (February 16).
The deceased, Anupam Kumar Ghosh (26), was a constable. He was the son of Ashish Kumar Ghosh from Durgapur Khormakhali village in the Chitalmari police station area of Bagerhat district. He was working at the Satkhira police line and lived in a rented house in Rasulpur with his wife.
After returning home around 2:00 AM on Saturday after his duty, he reportedly hanged himself with a gamcha from the ceiling fan at around 3:00 AM. His family members found him and took him to the Satkhira Sadar Hospital, where the emergency doctor declared him dead at 3:30 AM.
Dr. Maruf Hasan, the on-duty doctor at the emergency department of Satkhira Sadar Hospital, told Liberty News that the officer had already passed away before being brought to the hospital.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Satkhira Sadar Police Station, Shaminul Islam, told Liberty News that they went to the scene upon receiving the news. Initially, it is believed that the suicide was due to a family dispute, but the matter is under investigation. The body has been sent for an autopsy at the Satkhira Sadar Hospital morgue. An unnatural death (UD) case has been filed at the police station in connection with the incident.
