Polytechnic students across Bangladesh have launched a symbolic protest titled “Rise in Red”, covering their institute gates with red cloth and holding peaceful demonstrations to press home their six-point demands.
On Saturday morning, students from all government polytechnic institutes began a coordinated protest under the banner of Technical Student Movement, expressing frustration over continued negligence of their demands and recent attacks on fellow students in Comilla.
The announcement came late Friday night through the movement’s official Facebook page. According to the statement, the main gates of all polytechnic institutes across the country will remain wrapped in red cloth for an indefinite period as a symbol of resistance and unity.
As part of the program, students are also organizing human chains by standing with placards along roadsides or in significant public spaces—ensuring no public suffering while still drawing government attention to their demands.
The protest follows Wednesday’s nationwide road blockade and Thursday’s meeting with the Ministry of Education, which students claim yielded no satisfactory outcome. In response, demonstrators staged a symbolic “death march” on Friday, wearing burial shrouds on their heads after Jumu’ah prayers.
The students continue to call for the elimination of discrimination in the technical education sector and the full implementation of their six-point demand, vowing to persist until their voices are heard.
