Many of the world’s biggest apps including Snapchat, Duolingo and Roblox have gone down, in what appears to be an issue affecting Amazon Web Services.

Users of many apps and websites, which are supported under Amazon Web Services (AWS), started facing disruption since Sunday.

Amazon Web Services is the tech giant Amazon’s cloud computing division, and its infrastructure underpins millions of large companies’ websites and platforms.

Many of the apps of smartphone are actually running on AWS data centres.

In an update on its service status page, where it highlights any problems, it said it could confirm “significant error rates for requests” to one of its endpoints for services in its US-EAST-1 region.

User reports of issues affecting platforms are spiking, according to platform outage monitor Downdetector – with more than 5,000 issues flagged by Snapchat users.

Other brands including Ring, Clash Royale, Life360, My Fitness Pal, Xero, Canva, Amazon, Amazon Web Services, Amazon Music, Prime Video, Clash of Clans, Fortnite, Wordle, Coinbase, HMRC, Vodafone, Playstation, Pokémon Go also have gone down for the same issue.

AWS confirmed, “Engineers are immediately engaged and are actively working on both mitigating the issue, and fully understanding the root cause.”
