Dhallywood actress Pori Moni has been sued by her former housemaid on charges of physical abuse and assault, following an incident that allegedly left the victim unconscious.
A domestic worker named Pinky Akter filed a case against popular Bangladeshi actress Pori Moni at the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter on Tuesday. The complaint also names a man named Saurav, reportedly residing in Pori Moni’s flat, as a co-accused.
The court accepted the statement of the complainant and directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to probe the matter and submit a report by May 8.
According to Pinky’s lawyer, Advocate Nasidus Zaman Nishan, the victim had earlier lodged a written complaint with Vatara Police Station on April 3 but, finding no redress, she turned to the court for legal action.
As per the case details, Pinky joined Pori Moni’s household in March 2024 through a staffing agency called Kader Agency. Although hired to care for one child, she claims she was made to look after two children as well as handle household cooking day and night. Despite the increased workload, she says she fulfilled her duties with patience due to financial necessity.
The complaint alleges that on April 2, Pori Moni verbally abused Pinky over feeding milk to the child. When Pinky explained that she followed the child’s routine, Pori Moni reportedly became enraged and slapped her repeatedly on the head, face, and eyes—eventually causing her to lose consciousness.
Pinky claims she repeatedly begged to be taken to a hospital, but Pori Moni and Saurav, who was present at the time, ignored her pleas. Instead, Saurav allegedly encouraged the actress to continue the abuse.
Eventually, Pinky called emergency services via 999 and was rescued by police. She later received treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital and filed a general diary (GD) at Vatara Police Station on April 4.
The case has sparked renewed public scrutiny over the treatment of domestic workers and the accountability of public figures in Bangladesh.
