Former Press Secretary to Khaleda Zia, Maruf Kamal Khan, has said that Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus could play a vital role in branding Bangladesh globally even after the upcoming national election.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Maruf Kamal Khan emphasized the potential benefits of utilizing Dr Yunus’s international reputation and credibility to promote Bangladesh worldwide. He argued that even in the post-election political landscape, Dr Yunus’s influence could bring significant advantages for the country.
Kamal also reiterated the BNP’s commitment to forming a post-election national government comprising anti-fascist forces. “This decision must be made without delay,” he wrote. “Prolonged conflict will only worsen the situation. Consensus and unity are now the only paths to success. A shared commitment to govern can resolve all ongoing crises.”
Outlining his vision for government and opposition roles, Maruf Kamal stated, “Those playing the role of the opposition can also be identified. My idea is that moderate liberals like Rob, Manna, Saki, and Saiful Haque should be part of the government alongside the BNP, while Islamist groups can remain in the opposition.”
He further added that a collective decision is needed regarding the future of the “fallen” Awami League. “Even after the election, Bangladesh could reap significant benefits by leveraging Dr Yunus’s global credibility for international branding.”
Concluding his post, Maruf Kamal warned against squandering the opportunities created by the recent student uprising of 2024. “These ideas are not utopian. Everyone should reflect on them. We must not destroy the immense possibilities brought by the student movement through narrow self-interest or vanity,” he said.
