Powerful 6.2 magnitude earthquake was felt off the coast of North Maluku, Indonesia. No immediate reports of casualties or damage have been received.
Indonesia’s Geological Agency reported that the earthquake struck on Wednesday, February 5, at a depth of 81 kilometers.
On the social media platform X, the agency stated that there was no threat of a tsunami following the earthquake.
So far, no significant damage has been reported from the earthquake. Indonesia’s disaster management agency has not made any immediate comment on the situation.
Liberty News’ international correspondent reports that the country, located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, is frequently at risk of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Due to the region being a junction of various tectonic plates, earthquakes occur frequently in this area.
