The Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh has expressed deep concern over the indefinite closure of United International University (UIU) following a recent untoward incident on campus.
The Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB) on Tuesday (April 29) voiced serious concern regarding the indefinite suspension of academic activities at United International University (UIU) after an unexpected incident disrupted campus life. In a press release, APUB noted that the closure has adversely affected students, faculty members, officials, as well as staff.
United International University (UIU) has been closed indefinitely following the resignation of its Vice-Chancellor and 11 department heads amid unexpected developments. The announcement was made on the university’s verified Facebook page and website on Sunday night. Registrar Zulfiqur Rahman said all academic and administrative activities would remain suspended until further notice due to the situation.
The statement emphasized that any student grievances or legitimate demands should be presented formally to university authorities for resolution. In cases where issues remain unresolved, students and stakeholders have the option to escalate matters to regulatory bodies like the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Ministry of Education.
“Disrupting the educational environment and halting academic activities due to any unwanted incident is highly undesirable,” the association asserted. It further highlighted the importance of safeguarding the value of time, especially since private university students’ education expenses largely depend on their guardians’ hard-earned income. Timely graduation through regular study is critical to remain competitive globally, it added.
The association also warned against third-party influences that could destabilize campus environments and stressed the need for vigilance to avoid tragic outcomes such as educational disruption or loss of life. Maintaining discipline, respecting teachers, and preserving the reputation of educational institutions were cited as essential responsibilities for students.
APUB expressed optimism that the situation at UIU would be resolved swiftly and fairly, calling for tolerant, lawful, and responsible actions from all parties. It urged collective efforts to restore and maintain a conducive academic atmosphere on campus.
