Supporters of BNP have staged demonstrations for the third consecutive day, demanding that Engineer Ishraque Hossain be sworn in as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation.
On Saturday morning, leaders, activists from various wings of BNP’s Dhaka metropolitan unit, along with general citizens, gathered in front of the Nagar Bhaban (City Hall) to press for their demand.
Ishraque Hossain, a member of the BNP’s International Affairs Committee, is at the center of the protest as demonstrators claim he was the rightful candidate and should be administered the oath as mayor.
The protest, now entering its third day, reflects rising political tensions as opposition supporters continue to challenge the legitimacy of the current Dhaka South City Corporation administration.
No official response has yet been given by the Election Commission or the city authority regarding the demand. Security was heightened in the area to prevent any untoward incidents.
