United Women’s Initiative staged a human chain protest in front of the National Press Club on Thursday morning, demanding the reformation of the Women’s Reform Commission and cancellation of its controversial recommendations.

The protest, which began shortly after 10 a.m., was organized by Sommilito Nari Proyas (United Women’s Initiative). Participants called for the immediate restructuring of the Women’s Reform Commission, criticizing its current form and recommendations as biased and detrimental to women’s rights.

The event was presided over by Dr. Shamima Tasnim, Chairperson of the organization and Professor of Public Administration at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).

The demonstration drew a diverse group of participants, including political leaders, representatives from various women’s organizations, civil society members, university faculty and students, as well as prominent human rights activists.

Speakers at the rally emphasized the urgent need for a fair, inclusive, and representative commission that reflects the voices and interests of women across all sectors of society.
