Train services have restarted from Wednesday morning (January 29) after the Railway Running Staff Union called off their strike late Tuesday night (January 28) following assurances that their demands would be met. At Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka, long-distance and commuter train tickets were being sold, signaling the return of train operations. The Rajshahi-bound Dhumketu Express was among the first to resume, but many other trains faced severe delays.
The Sonar Bangla Express, originally scheduled to depart at 7:00 AM, finally left over an hour late, heading toward Chittagong. Meanwhile, the Tourist Express bound for Cox’s Bazar departed two and a half hours behind schedule.
Travelers at the station voiced their frustration, citing not only delayed departures but also a lack of information regarding the exact departure times. While train operations are back to normal after the strike, passengers are still dealing with the consequences of the schedule disruptions.
Liberty News’ national affairs correspondent reports that Kamapapur Station Master Mohammad Anwar Hossain confirmed that, except for a few trains delayed due to engine issues, most trains have been running. However, he acknowledged that seven trains had left late as of the morning. Passengers, meanwhile, have urged the authorities to prioritize resolving these scheduling issues to prevent further inconvenience.
