The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has alleged that officers were attacked during an anti-sexual violence protest march in the capital. Several police personnel, including senior officials, sustained injuries as protesters reportedly clashed with law enforcement near Hotel InterContinental.

In a press release issued on Tuesday night, DMP Deputy Police Commissioner (Media) Muhammad Talebur Rahman stated that around 60-70 protesters, including both men and women, attempted to march toward the Chief Adviser’s official residence, Jamuna, around 3:30 PM.

Police intercepted the demonstration at Hotel InterContinental intersection, urging protesters to disperse for security and traffic management. However, according to the statement, demonstrators used women as shields, forcibly breaking through police barricades and engaging in aggressive behavior.

The DMP further claimed that several female officers were scratched and injured during the scuffle. Protesters allegedly threw bricks and sticks at law enforcement personnel, resulting in severe injuries to Ramna Zone Assistant Commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun. Additionally, Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Masud Alam, two female officers, and three constables were also wounded.

Police eventually brought the situation under control by dispersing the demonstrators. Legal action against those involved in the attack is currently underway, the statement added.
