Failing to receive a roadmap for banning the Awami League, the Anti-Fascist National Unity has launched a ‘March to Jamuna’ and relocated their sit-in from Shahbagh to the InterContinental Hotel intersection on Saturday night.
Protesters are now marching toward the Chief Advisor’s residence, known as Jamuna, declaring it a long march after the government failed to announce steps to prohibit the Awami League. Earlier, demonstrators said they would wait for the outcome of the interim advisory council’s emergency meeting before proceeding.
Earlier in the day, at a mass gathering, Hasnat Abdullah, southern organizer of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP), declared that “just as fascism once echoed from Shahbagh, it is from Shahbagh that the fascist Awami League will be banned.” Leaders from NCP and other parties pledged to remain on the streets until their demand is met.
